Words of Wisdom

I don't know if it's just a British thing, but you may have encountered "Life's Little Instruction Book", a collection of tiny bits of advice to help you become a calmer, wiser and utterly boring generally happier person. Everyone goes through life picking up these small but significant lessons and bits of information, and as part of what might become a series depending on how much juice I can squeeze out of it, I thought I would share just a few of the things I've learned this week.
  • Without fail, every time I decide to take a day off on account of feeling a bit ill and anticipating a very quiet day anyway, within an hour, at least one of our clients will phone up to say they've just set the workflow on fire
  • Fresh bake-at-home rolls are one of the best things in the world
  • There is no more effective keyboard glue than Nantucket Nectar orange and mango juice. I spilled no more than a few drops on it the other day and despite just about filling it to the brim with Windex the 9 key still needs to be levered back into position with a plectrum every time I hit it a bit hard
  • Baseball games at Fenway mean that handhold space is at a premium, meaning that I am perfecting the emerging commuter art of bus-surfing
  • You shouldn't put commas in values in comma separated value files
  • Frosted Mini Wheats "Big Bite" are larger versions of miniature frosted Shredded Wheat, so they're exactly the same as frosted Shredded Wheat anyway. What a country
  • Eating crisps that have been spilled on the floor will cause severe stomach-exploding episodes in the middle of the night
  • Attempting to wear sandals without proper training results in awful blisters
  • The music from the first level of Zero Wing is fantastic and deserves an update
  • My trousers are chavtastic
