Raining trees

The last time a hurricane was forecast for us, it felt remarkably similar to being in a light breeze. This one was much more of an event - we haven't suffered any damage and our electricity managed to stay on throughout the entire thing, but... well, have a look at it.

This is where I was going to park the car last night, away from the path of the branches I thought were likely to come down! On reflection, not doing that was a very good decision. In fact, our neighbour parked right in front of the first branch to fall on the right, but we both moved down to the main road where there are no trees early in the morning. And that's just as well, because the bigger one fell shortly afterwards.

This one, unsheltered by any houses at the bottom of our road, is entirely on its side - and it had looked fairly strong, too.

Even in the places where the branches have all stayed on, the entire road is a carpet of twigs and leaves.

And looking at this on the opposite corner of the street, it seems we're lucky that the electricity has stayed on. I'm not sure where this branch even came from, because there aren't any trees above where the lines cross - it must have been blown a great distance from the one on the left of the photo to end up caught like this.

Well, we've got enough bottled water to see us through the next major disaster.
