You're actually correct that I had meant to use "apolitical" to mean... not associated with politics - but you're right that there is that small bit at the start. I'd seen it more as an observation of America's rabidly polarized and overblown version of politics rather than actually favouring one side or commenting directly on the idiocy of the modern right.
