Listen, world -

"Your" is a word that is used to indicate possession or association. "You're" is a contraction of "You are". The two are not interchangeable. This is not a difficult concept to grasp. I've now seen the word "Your" misused so often that it's beginning to look wrong no matter where it's used.

This post was brought on by seeing yet another misuse on The Sinner - a site for St Andrews students, supposedly the best (or sometimes, richest) in Scotland.

I'm going to go and have a lie down now.

I write as i speak, so sometimes this goes by unnoticed by me. It is also why i say could of instead of could have. I also never say Whom and always say who. Also I most likely do the double adjective although i cannot see myself saying "that truck is real pretty"

But when you speak, you're saying either "your" or "you're". There's no reason that shouldn't be transferrable to your writing.

Personally, I get more annoyed by people confusing "Loose" and "Lose". But that's awful too. If you want a laugh, check out this (http://www.queenofwands.net/d/20020925.html) and this (http://www.queenofwands.net/d/20031003.html).

I was going to put on a really witty comment mixing your and you're, but I was annoying myself just writing it..... It irritates me so much! :)

their must be something that can be done about it.

and yes... how hard can it be to not confuse loose and lose? goddamnit.

I'm going to hang myself at the first set of marking that I have to do, i can just feel it.

either you're being very polite or you didn't actually spot the deliberate mistake on the first line.
