KPL

KPL, or Kids' Programming Language, was pointed out on the Daily Click today. I find it interesting that someone's trying to get children into programming again - the last time I'd seen evidence of this was in the late eighties when Usbourne released a series of children's books on BASIC (which I still have in the basement). Indeed, it looks like a decently powerful language, although I'm not sure about its claimed ease of use.

The site itself is rather offputting, though - I can't help being reminded of Dead Ringers' impression of Matt Smith, as it's written by a forty year old man trying to sound like a twelve year old boy. Only joking. I think. Ace.


[livejournal.com profile] scellanis put up a meme that caught my attention a day ago - to comply with the instructions I've put every piece of music on my computer into my playlist, so there might be a few embarrassing minefields to tread on.

Do you trust my taste in music? Pick one number from 1 to 777 and I'll find the corresponding song in my playlist, and provide a link to the selected song.

249 is Iron Maiden's Face in the Sand, from Dance of Death. It's not their best album, but it's still pretty strong considering they're now all approximately 80 years old and beginning to resemble Eddie, their zombie mascot.

This one is Gods of Deliverance from one of Gamma Ray's older albums whn they were slightly undecided as to which direction they were going. It's one of the few songs written by Jan Rubach, who was the band's resident philosophical-religious oddball before Henjo Richter took over those duties in the next album.

#729 is And That World Was Ending - 2002 (Short version), which was written by me about a week before leaving for St Andrews for the first time. Even though it's a bit outdated now and I've never really been able to get the instrumentation right, I still consider it to have one of the better melodies that I've come up with.

I've got none...just the one song that they put on one of the metal hammer magazine CDs this month....been wanting the albums for months but I can only get them from amazon market place hence never get round to buying them.

#285 is Iron Maiden - The Duellists. That's going back a bit - I got into Maiden when I was in fifth year of school. Powerslave, the album that it appears on, was the first album I ever bought.

It's available on my FTP server, which has the same address as the last time I gave it to you, even though our IP is supposed to be dynamic.
