Stumbling through Freedom Planet
Here's Freedom Planet! After the darkness and tension of saving the planet in the UFO videos, I seriously needed to play something nice and fluffy. And this delivers a really nice and smooth platformer that succeeds in replicating and building on the mascot platformers of the Megadrive and early Playstation eras - it feels not quite like a Sonic fangame as I'd anticipated, but the kind of game that the Sonic series should have turned into instead of the unkempt polygonal heap that we got. But enough negativity, this is wonderful.

. . Also, is Carol a guy, or a girl. Because I thought it was a guy at first, and I don't want to play a game where I have to play a female character.

Out of curiosity, I took Carol's route...which is basically the same as Lilac's, but with a different skill set.
Carol, who's apparently a wildcat (and, sorry Crass, a female) can wall-jump, and is the one who makes use of that gas canister you found; they give her access to her motorbike, which increases her speed, gives her a double-jump, and makes her look hilarious when holding herself and it from an overhead bar.

Stop that. Your other options are semi-infinite. Leave it alone if you dislike it that much.

Now I know how female gamers must feel.

But yes, this game is just beautiful :)

First off, good job picking something light and fluffy to wash down the XCOM series. ;)
This game is clearly of a higher tier than you (and many) were expecting, and that is fantastic. :) If you want some freeware indie platformer, it will probably play like ... well, some freeware indie platformer. If you want this kind of quality, where even the voice acting is actually really good (except Torque) let alone the gameplay and graphics, it's $15. You get what you pay for!! That seems completely fair to me.
Regarding the confusion over Lilac, to me she just looks like ... well, a Sonic character, which has long since transcended being an art style to becoming a species in and of itself. Species: Sonic character. Like a purple long-haired Amy Rose. Wait, what is Amy Rose, again?
Right, I have just switched tabs and looked that up (because I actually had to) and apparently Amy Rose is a hedgehog. Lilac is allegedly a dragon, so there goes that theory. Oh, well. My point stands.
Anyway, this is great. :D
