Herzog Zwei. Have you any idea how astonishingly overcomplex the process for getting married in America is? I've just called the premium rate £1.20-a-minute advice line to see if I was mistaken, but the process is genuinely this bad - Whitney has to fill in the catchily-named I129F form and send it (while in America) to New Hampshire, where it'll be looked at, approved or disproved and sent to London for processing, all for a small filing fee of $170. London will then send us up another set of forms, which have to be filled out and sent back to them, then they'll contact us about getting an appointment at the embassy, leaving us to try and find some way of finding the time and money to get down there. Maybe we'll just live here instead. The stress is enough to make someone make two LJ entries in one morning.

Americans love British accents. I swear that everyone you meet for the rest of your life in the States will be like "Oh my! Cup o' tea?" "Jolly good show" "Mornin' Gov'na'", etc until you will wish you never had such an accent (or that you had stayed here-- but then Whitney will have the opposite effect here because in my experience British people aren't as keen on Americans as Americans are keen to Brits).

On the other hand, I have a Brazilian friend who is married to a Brit and she says it isn't the easiest thing to be able to stay here. It's been two years since their wedding and she's still not eligble for British citizenship.

it could be worse; you and your parents could be invited for dinner at the embassy to determine if you're the right sort of person that they want marrying their citizens.

neeless to say, there would be great comedic potential in such a dinner.

I often get complimented on my accent when I'm over in Berkeley. What really surprises them is when you say that theirs isn't bad either.
