It hasn't been a great year for this journal, as somehow over the last while we all realized that nobody really cares about what we do in our real lives and would prefer to post Tumblr artwork at each other instead - but I haven't missed a birthday update since starting!
I haven't really experienced much of the day, though, because among the gifts that I woke up to this morning, I received a cold that has had me lying on the sofa for most of the day. I'm hoping I can celebrate properly in a couple of days when there's an event with the Anthro NE people - even though I've all but given up writing about my real life, I've become a lot more active in that community over the last year.
Today we met up with some friends who used to live in Boston, who now have a two year old child - while waiting for a table at the notoriously packed Zaftig's cafe, we took her to the park next door. I somehow became responsible for pushing her on the swing, and quickly realized that owning a baby must be a lifetime of complete terror - is she hanging on well enough, is she going too high, will she be killed if she falls off? But she absolutely loved it, christening me Deedee as she commanded me to push her higher. After about half an hour of exhaustedly pushing this baby-cannonball back and forth, she finally asked to be let down, and I let her off only for her to walk over to the next swing in line and start the entire process again.
Once we finally got a table I got quite into helping her draw with the provided crayons as well. I... think I might be starting to practice.
