To be fair, Paradies (or possibly Paradise) might fit in around the Atlantis stage instead - the description of the moon at the start may represent "this is how it looks after the Iron Savior bombarded it under Alliance control".

Also, I think the plot outline on the site defines the Masters of Time (or whatever the fellows in Interlude are callled) and the Shadow as two separate invasions.

Having made a three part dissection of the otherwise vague and symbolic Wicked Trilogy by Avantasia, I am exactly the right person to have any room to question the time you must have spent on this.

Paradi{se/es} (which is obviously meant to be Paradise but Darklyrics and the band's own site both list it as that... actually, now that I look, it's been corrected on the band's site and Darklyrics' one has it next to No Heros, so that mystery is over.) Paradise is much earlier...! You're absolutely right - somehow for all this time I had interpreted the explanation in the booklet as being after the Condition Red storyline (as you'd expect from its position on the album), but the lyrics are unmistakably about the very start of it. So that's being corrected!

You're actually right about Interlude and Dark Assault as well... as I recall, he started one storyline, then sort of decided to forget about it and wrote that the first attacks had just stopped (and I had assumed that he picked it up again afterwards). So that would put Contortions of Time out in a void somewhere... The Hatchet of War could just fit anywhere if it wasn't for that. Hmm.

I hope you've heard the latest album... it really is phenomenal, even if it's the first ever that doesn't seem to have a unifying storyline. The first two songs on it are unmistakable, but the rest of it is up to interpretation (and I could only imagine that two further ones could fit in).

According to that storyline, actually, the order of songs I have for Dark Assault seems still to be roughly right, as he retconned the Masters of Time to be after Interlude... just that a new heading needs to be added!

I think other than that my only real cheat is putting Brave New World out in Condition Red where it can't possibly have been intended to be... but it's either that or not really part of the storyline.

And it continues to be important to take suggestions on board and get it right! (I am actually gobsmacked to realize that Paradise is at the opposite end of the storyline from where its position on the albums would suggest.)

This is.. the first I'm hearing of a chronological order to it all, in fact. I like your music, but I didn't know there was some sort of overarching storyline, and I look forward to looking at it more deeply.

It seems you've got a lot of work to do! I want to come back to this post periodically and see it gradually filling up with links..

The storyline is something that I discovered about Iron Savior after I first heard them, but it definitely helped me get addicted to them - the fourth album (Condition Red) contained a plot revelation that truly surprised me, and you can't say that about metal albums very often. I was rather disappointed when they stopped putting an actual story outline and explanation of where each song fit into it in each album, but he did it so that he was more free to write songs about anything he liked, which is a fair enough change. It also opened up some of the later songs to actual interpretation as to where in the story they were meant to go, and this is the first time that I'd bothered to obesssively chart them.

I've never written anything with a coherent storyline to it - I did sort of make a half-hearted attempt in 2003, though the 'story' came together after the fact and I never exposed it anywhere.

I thought they had completely vanished until I happened to search their name again at the end of last year, and I was ecstatic to find that they had released a new album without me noticing :) They're probably my favourite band out of all of this genre... I discovered the whole power metal universe through them first, so they're always going to be special.

Bands of this genre tend to play much smaller venues in America, as well - I think there were about 500 or so at the one I went to for Gamma Ray and Helloween, but 100 is virtually a private showing :)

By the way, did you hear Powerwolf? They are kinda mocking whole genre, in Edguy way, even in Nanowar way sometimes, but I think at the moment they are unmatched in power metal.

I have! I first heard of through through someone on FA and I couldn't believe that a band with a name like 'Powerwolf' existed - and they were in that odd place where I really couldn't tell if they were taking themselves seriously or not. But I liked what little I heard of them, even though I didn't think I would from their quite... black metal-like image.

When Blind Guardian decided to film a live DVD in their native Germany, the only way they could get a venue that actually fit them was to make their own outdoor festival type thing. Between their elaborate setup and the unbelievable crowd it drew, it ended up looking something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE4Ms0-OyZY .

When they came to my town, they played in the tiny standing-room Sunshine Theater (http://a3.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/12/a01ff19e08644e248ac1269caae45a96/l.jpg is actually a photo of a different band in the exact same theater, I found it by GISing for said theater) to a crowd of about half what you see in that photo. As a metal fan, I was actually kind of offended. (Though I did get a signed Seven KingdomZ CD so I can at least felt like I supported someone.)

Though they're not my thing, my friends are hugely into VNV Nation, and they tell me that those guys suffer from the exact same problem; overseas it looks like a Queen concert or something, here they're stuck in the Sunshine and no one cares. It's sad.

I recalled them because their show had been few weeks before IS, and they gathered a much larger crowd.

The question about them taking it all seriously resolves if you listen to their texts :) Resurrection by erection is my favourite.
