When I was a teaching assistant and saw that, I used to pretend I thought it was just a spelling error or typo, and that they meant "allot." Consequently I would say their sentence made no sense. When they told me what they meant I would be shocked, as if such a horribly wrong spelling was too far off to have occurred to me. T'was fun.
