Of all the classes that I have this year, the Multimedia course is a rare case because it's one that I actually look forward to going to. Yesterday we were having a lecture on colour followed by two presentations on DVRs and virtual reality, but this soon descended into a lengthy discussion about the French and building our own Matrix. In addition to that, the questions that we're handed out are absolutely surreal. Normally you'd expect to be given tutorial sheets involving calculations about Amdahl's Law or some other immemorable formula, or perhaps discussing advantages and disadvantages of something or other in the modern computing blah.

9. If you gave a child a paintbox containing red, green and blue paints only, will they be able to mix an adequate range of colours to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

10. Superman's uniform is blue, with a yellow S on the chest and a red cape. How would you make an image of superman flying without recourse to his superpowers?

I think I'll just stick to writing about path trees and benchmarking for now.

I should imagine the answer to 9 be simply yes...although it would be a lot easier if you had yellow rather than green because all colours are made from the three primary colours and then you mix up a purple for the shadows...

I suppose you might miss the white but you could just water down existing colours...

That actually sounds rather interesting.
'twould be tricky to get the yellows and oranges, though assuming the chapel's ceiling was originally a brilliant white (probably wasn't), a very thin brown may "adequately" represent these colours. the word "adequate" is somewhat subjective...

Then you've got the issue of children being shorter (on the whole) than Michaelangelo, and requiring extra scaffolding.
And of course they probably wouldn't be able to hold their concentration for as long. And chances are they wouldn't have such an eye for detail....

No idea about question 10...

Superman's 'S' isn't yellow, it's red on yellow, generally, with it being red on black, and many others, as shown here. (http://www.geekforum.com/forum/uploads/SUPERMAN.jpg) And is it really asking you to make an image of him flying without his superpowers? Because his flight (http://www.supermanimagery.com/images/wall/building-flight.jpg) doesn't really have a distintive image, apart from him, in contrast to someone like Green Lantern (http://www.woofofsteel.com/woof_blog/archives/green%20lantern%20151-thumb.jpg) or Cannonball (http://www.marveldatabase.com/wiki/images/e/e5/Cannonball_002.jpg). Plus, he can't actually fly without superpowers.
I'm such a superhero nerd.

Green Lantern can fly without superpowers, can't he? And Batman, even though he doesn't have any powers, can sort-of fly - to an extent, 'glide' being more accurate - because of his suit.

In many ways, Superman's actually quite weak in comparison.

Well, if you don't include Green Lantern's ring, without which he has no powers, which allows him to more or less create anything he can imagine, in his superpowers, yeah, he can fly powerless. And Batman doesn't fly or glide too much, he tends to swing by ropes. Actually, though, Spider-man could compare well: he does have superpowers, like strength, but has flying-type abilities with web-shooters which aren't included in his powers. And yes, Superman is weak powerless, compartively. But he does have big, if ultimately rather bland, superpowers.

i keep wondering how most superheroes would manage if they found themselves naked/without their superhero gear in an unknown land. Iron Man would simply die straight away, Green Lantern wouldn't be much cop and batman would be a bit puny sans bat-belt (i still wouldn't bet against him being the last man to survive though...)

Spider-Man would do fine, along with Flash, Hulk etc...

Iron Man, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Hawkeye would easily be done for, Thor too, depending on which version you're working with. Batman could have a chance, but he'd be quite weakened. Hulk's not particularly reliable, though. Starman'd probably be screwed, too, though he'd have something of a chance. Daredevil'd be interesting to see, that way. Most of the Fantastic Four and X-men should be sorted, Robin/Nightwing'd be in the same ship as the batman ... and I've gone OTT on the superhero's, probably, though I can think of more.

i just think it's hysterical that Iron Man can't go to the bathroom without his suit without dying, let alone fight a dragon.
