This has to be my favourite song from Epica, even though it's so happy that you can imagine a red ball bouncing along the lyrics like in a singalong video. Until you actually listen to the lyrics, that is - it's about a man being tempted by the Devil.
So, I got up at the insanely early 8:30 to drive Sleigh and my mum and aunt down to St Andrews. We arrived in good time, just after 11:30, and spent a while in Drouthy Neebors waiting for the others to arrive, who had almost invariably overslept. Their stupidly-named "Bad Boy Burger" is even bigger than the Central one - neither Paul nor I managed to finish our meals. I'm still not feeling hungry, even at lunchtime the next day.
We made a start to the day by going in to Dundee. The plan was to meet Niall at the North Haugh and pick him up, but in a stroke of genius everyone in the leading car forgot that we had to turn off to go and get him. We followed them anyway, and phoned them to ask "Where's Niall?", to which Amanda responded by hastily turning the indicator light on and performing a quick turning manoeuvre in the road. We returned to pick up the fed-up-looking Niall and got to the Megabowl on the second attempt.
With exactly the wrong number of people as usual - that is, too many for one lane but not enough for two, I was beaten by five points by Paul in the first game and beat him by what I think was 30 points in the second. Just as well Chris wasn't playing this time.
Afterwards we made our way back to Amanda and Iain's flat, where Niall played the Christian acoustic classics for us, and we alternated between there and the Union. They have a nice new addition - "The King of Route 66", which has a CB radio device so that you can pick it up and bellow at the game rather than actually pressing a button for "Nitro". If I was going to be really boring (which I am) I would describe it as a more arcadey Transport Tycoon, mixed with Crazy Taxi - pick up a load, then deliver it to the right place before rival companies by any means possible.
There's a new racing game as well - Paul and I only played Sega Rally once after it replaced Daytona 2. I can't remember the new one's name, but I didn't really think much of it, its novelty being assistance controls that can be toggled on and off, such as traction control, braking assistance, steering assistance (so that you might as well not bother driving).
After going to Tesco's, Amanda and Iain prepared rather a nice meal comprised of potatoes and chicken. How AMH manages to get that meal so wrong I'll never know. While we ate, we watched Changing Rooms (yuck) and Location, Location, Location, Location, Location, Revisited (I wasn't born, I was knitted). Back to the Union again, and we had a couple of games of pool and a few drinks while discussing the plans for Fresher's Week next year.
Of course, we'll have to fortify our area of the Union, possibly by camping out in it from dinnertime the previous Thursday, so that the people we've met over the Sinner know who we are. I'd like to attend the AMH get-togethers, though, so there's a chance of meeting as many new people as possible. As much as anything else, the more people I know the less chance there is of being single, but that's not the real point. The most important thing is making a fresh start and forgetting about my emotional/social disaster last year - and I hope other people will forget about it as well.
Anyway, Sleigh and I had to leave relatively early at 10pm to be home at a reasonable time after the two-hour drive. Hopefully there'll be time for another meet-up before the start of next year, but we'll have a lot of time in Fresher's Week this time.
