Well, I didn't really do much today - sat in the room and occasionally went down for meals. After dinner, Chris and I played table tennis with the provided bats before watching The Simpsons. At least that's in working order - you can't rip a table tennis table.

We met up at our usual time of 8:30 in the lobby and headed to the Union karaoke night. This time, Richard, Anthony, Benedict and I performed Bohemian Rhapsody, which I thought went rather well once we all decided what key we were singing in. I think the music had its own ideas, though.

I met Lee Ing there - as I keep saying, I think that's how you spell it. Her English name is "Fanny", but I have to say I prefer the Chinese one. Happy birthday to her - she's a fresher and she's still marginally older than me. We had a conversation by writing down questions to each other on bits of paper rather than trying to be heard above the noise, I understand her writing a little better than her speaking. Her English is still very impressive for someone who's been learning it for as short a time as she has, but particularly above noise it's hard to understand what she's saying. On Karaoke night, of course, it's difficult to understand what _anyone_ is saying. I think she was, er, rather surprised by my Internet name, but nothing more than that.

I walked her home along with another girl just after midnight - an alarm went off just as we left, I don't know what happened there. Billy joined us on the way down. And now I've got to go to bed, then matriculate in the morning.

Rather a lot's happened today, and it's still only half past one.

So, I got up and met Liying (now I know how to spell it and everything - impressed now, aren't you?) at breakfast, and afterwards she invited me down to her room. She needed a bit of help with her computer, but she uses Win XP and I've got very little experience with that. The fact that it was in Chinese didn't really help either, to be honest. After showing her where my own room was, I left to advise and matriculate.

Dr Richens was late for his own advising, but everything went smoothly after that. There was an advert on the noticeboard that caught my attention - someone's selling a relatively new computer for £350, so I might look in to that. And I was rather surprised to learn that there's another David Newton in the University, a fresher who put his name down for the wrong adviser. That's probably why Richens thought I was in C112.

Matriculation came next - on arrival I was told my card was damaged, so I had to get a new one. Shiny, shiny, shiny. (Can anything be THAT shiny?) I can't see what was wrong with it, though - it still worked on the John Honey building this morning when I went to check where to enrol. Still, everything else went smoothly, and I bought a couple of celebratory doughnuts from the best bakery in the world (AKA Fisher and Donaldsons) on the way back.

I met Liying again on the way down the stairs to the foyer. It was just as well I took that route, in fact. She wanted me to come to the world's biggest coffee morning in the Sports Centre, so I threw my forms and stuff in to my room and went out with her again. We met another of her friends, Rachel, there - don't think Liying enjoyed the coffee much, though. She's rather keen on teaching me Chinese words... I hope that I can help her to improve her English as well.

She said she didn't want lunch as she'd eaten enough already, so I headed back to my room and met Sarah on the way. At lunch I saw Caris (another spelling problem, I'm afraid - why do people this year have such exotic names?) for the first time in a while. I didn't know she was "Charisma" on The Sinner until now. After checking to see if Paul was still alive I came back here - as you might have noticed I've already had four meals today, so I'm feeling a bit lazy. At this rate I'm going to become Mr Fat Bastard 2004.
