First day of the house process
Apr. 5th, 2010 05:00 pmWho the hell decided that buying a house was a good idea just after getting four upgrades done at work? This morning we got a call from our agent saying that the sellers' agent wouldn't declare our offer official until we got an updated pre-approval letter that had an expiry date that went past the end of May and specifically mentioned FHA loans (a type of loan we're planning to get that involves, among other things, less of a down payment). So I emailed the bank and found that our loan approver was on holiday, so I had to wait for a call from someone else there and asked about the new requirements, and they sent me a new letter with only a couple of hours' pause for me to panic.
After that was sent off, we organized an appointment with a home inspector, after which the sellers' agent came back again asking for the letter to specify that the FHA loan had a deposit of 3.5% (something that it has by definition). I called the Russian woman at the bank that had assisted me before and asked for another amendment, saying that it was the sellers' fault when she said to me "but zis is like saying that 'butter has to be butter'". I still haven't received the third letter, but I got another call from our own agent about a minute later saying that the sellers' agent had called the bank herself and somebody had explained to her how loans work, so she was satisfied that everything was all right. I think I'm beginning to realize why the previous two offerers pulled out.
But in better news, I woke up on Sunday morning and found that Whitney had got me this little pile for Easter -

The plastic eggs are filled with mini Lindt eggs (and sometimes Creme eggs, which are about the same size these days), and the rabbit things at the back are called Peeps - I promise, the Rabbit of Caerbannog has nothing on these things. They're made out of marshmallow coated in unidentified blue sparkly stuff - the nutrition information on the back says that they're surprisingly healthy under the circumstances as they contain no fat and only 110 calories per serving size of 4... but I don't think I could manage more than one at a time without being sick.
