House inspection
Apr. 9th, 2010 04:46 pmWe had the house we're buying inspected yesterday - roughly stage two of the process. After this, there's the purchase and sale agreement, then mortgage loan application, then closing.
By the time I had navigated my way around the buses and walked to the Village, the inspector and his gadgets had already turned up and he was halfway through going around the house. The only major issue that he found was some evidence of mineral deposits in the boiler (or furnace as they're called here), which means that there may be a problem in the heat transferrer... thing and it may have to be replaced. We're getting that looked at at some point this week and hopefully we'll work something out with the sellers.
There were other more minor things that should be looked at - a couple of seals in windows and some non-grounded sockets, and the igniter on one of the hobs on the cooker doesn't work - but otherwise our agent said that as home inspection lists go, this one's problems were practically non-existent. Apparently we honestly have one socket that has a reversed polarity - he said it with a straight enough face, anyway. Those are things for which we can ask for a reduction on the buying price, so that they can be fixed.
Incidentally, my whole journal's going to be like this for about the next two months. You can escape now if you want.
