Internet update
Apr. 11th, 2010 06:38 pmI was reminded recently that I'd better actually announce this, because not everyone's noticed - I've stopped signing on to MSN for two related reasons. I was getting about twenty automated spam messages per day through it and my laptop struggles to open more than about two IM windows at once, and when I thought about it, I couldn't think of anyone who I exclusively communicated with on it that I actually wanted to communicate with. (If you did only have my MSN name and are not mad and/or illiterate, let me know.)
I'm also going to start trying to use the new AIM name that I registered a long time ago, NewtonXDavid. This inches me slightly closer to a respectable identity, but is slightly backwards because availability of AIM names is not high and it just accepts the first one that you put in that isn't already taken. I'll keep the old one online as well for an uncertain amount of time but will try to move my message-initiating to the new account.
Also, has anyone else with a Gmail account started to get spam messages leaking through the filter? It's not a tidal wave, but it's all the more noticeable that I get two or three a day now after it having a really good record of near zero over years before. I can't remember giving my email address out anywhere shady recently.
