Of all the things I could have shown Whitney, I think that It'll Be Alright on the Night would have been fairly low on the list of things that I would have expected to go down well - but we've been enjoying the archives of it on Youtube for the past few nights. It was a set of special out-take programmes that were presented by the shambling corpse of Denis Norden and his clipboard, but it was pretty much unique among its genre for actually being funny - this could be to do with hand-picking clips internationally, or because of the contrast given to them by the smug, bold and confident complete unfunniness of Denis's script (he was very aware that people would skip him, opening one edition with "Hello, or to those of you who wind through me to get to the funny bits - goodbye.")

One of my favourite sections was a collection of verbal slip-ups, one of which is a scene that abruptly ends when Sean Blowers declares that he has to "decorate the fence". But I couldn't work out - what on earth did he mean to say? I was running bits of the words backwards through my head last night and couldn't get them to make any sense in any combination.
