The funniest thing I've heard about the Large Hadron Collider is that someone actually bothered sending death threats to the scientists involved with its construction, saying that if it ends up destroying the world, he'll come round and kill them. Part of me thinks it'd be amusing to watch him try, just to see the look on his by-then non-existant face when he realises there's no-one left to kill... (also, what's he gonna do to them that's worse than being sucked into a black hole, anyway?) :P

Also, apologies on the extreme lateness of my response email, by the way. To my shame, I haven't actually started writing it properly yet; holidays and madness and getting everything sorted upon coming back, don'tcha know. :P I'll sit down and put fingers to keyboard this weekend, yeah?
