Door to nowhere

I feel rather like this thing. It's been a while since I had a cold this vicious - I couldn't even look at a screen yesterday, and that's pretty much unheard of for me.

I can share this, though:



I saw that opposite me through the window while reading in the first floor of the library on Friday - I'm not sure why the door was placed in mid-air there, unless the designer of the building went to the Prince of Persia school of architecture. Indeed, there seems to be a markedly obvious ledge just below it that could open up a route to the columns around to the right...

The columns? I think you'll find you're supposed to mantel the roof above the door, and then the one above that, and then the one above that...

Looks like a loading door, but I can't see a winch point - could have been removed though.

Great for disposing of unwanted visitors! "Ah, you say you'd like to offer me a quote for a new conservatory? Excellent, why don't you come on in and take a seat in the living room - it's just through there - and I'll make us some tea..."

If I ever become a supervillain and build myself a Doom Fortress, I'm definitely gonna have one. It can sit over a bottomless pit or something, and I can get rid of incompetent minions and would-be heroes alike through it. :P
