Snow-Daleks

The sheer amount of snow that transforms Boston each winter was a surprise to me even when I first moved here, but last night was a special event in itself. I've never seen anywhere transformed from relatively clear to sixteen inches deep in it this rapidly.

It wasn't good enough snow for snowmen, but I made us some defenders to stand along the front path.

Of course, they're only going to be able to keep intruders away if they don't retreat up any stairs, or move to an environment with a positive temperature. But who needs manoeuvrability when you have a sink plunger for an appendage?

Look at how deep it is! I'm more glad than ever now that we bought a house somewhere that organizes its own shovelling crews...

The wintrified house. They ploughed up our front path, but left us to find and dig out the front door for ourselves.

In the park area at the back, the snow has been pushed into ten-foot drifts.

This tree, visible from our bathroom window, was almost completely bent over.

This one is now an ex-tree.

There isn't a lot of anything that isn't white left anywhere.

I can just imagine your snow-Daleks panicking as it starts to thaw... you'll wake up one morning to a little chorus of grinding voices all going "WEA-THER SYS-TEM! YOU WILL O-BEY! PRE-CI-PI-TATE! PRE-CI-PI-TATE!" :P

I was trying to think of a catchphrase for them! That is as good as any that I could hope to have :)

It started when I filled our plastic cleaning bucket with snow scraped off the front porch, flumped it out at the end of the path, and it had become so packed together that it stayed in that shape like a sandcastle, with the ridges at the front of the bucket intact. And it was when looking at its upturned shape that I had the best idea I'd had that day :)

That is some insane storm! We haven't had anything of that magnitude in a very long time - everyone around Toronto's got some snow but we've got something like 2 inches.

And those are the most adorable Snow-Daleks ever. I've just kinda spammed my Twitter and Facebook pages with it. :D

Well, thank you for the additional exposure :) I've found myself checking that they're still there periodically, as if they're pets - they're certainly quite cute, for fascist analogues.
