Date: 2011-01-21 09:23 pm (UTC)Pokemon is pretty formulaic really - that format hasn't been changed since the original game. The changes come in the new levels of detail they manage to add into each game - side contests, "secret bases" (which act kind of like Professor Layton's decorate-your-bedroom minigames), 2-on-2 battles, item-creation minigames, and so on. It's worth playing at least one - my favourite was Emerald, because it was the first I played and I still have nostalgia for "my" team (internet memes about Mudkips notwithstanding); there isn't a great deal of variety in the main storylines, though, so you may or may not feel the need to play the others depending on how addicted you get to 'catching them all'.
