This was posted by [livejournal.com profile] e_to_the_ipi in a slightly tangential response to one of my earlier posts, but I think that it needs some more exposure. It must be said at this point that I'm not sure what I'm actually watching here, but I think that it does nonetheless.

As far as I can tell, it's a summary of the news of the Scottish independence referendum as seen through the eyes of someone who's taken a vast quantity of acid, rendered in 3D to make David Cameron look even more like an android than he normally does. I don't think I've ever seen any examples of Taiwanese humour before, but I have to admire both the detail of David Cameron's Margaret Thatcher pin-up calendar, and the fact that Alex Salmond appears to be played here by Rab C Nesbitt... along with several other details that really have to be seen to be believed. I wouldn't have expected things like that to turn up even in most Western videographers' efforts.

I have definitely been curious about their writing staff - it seems to have a lot of jokes that involve a lot of knowledge of either internet culture, or american culture... not to mention (if I'm remembering right) a few visual puns that only make sense in english... it's definitely seemed like they're producing this for an english audience (despite the spoken dialog) but based on what you're saying, I wonder if they either do a tremendous amount of research, or just contract out to local writers?

That's. . .pretty messed up. Showing the same severed head multiple times, and a futuristic spacecraft assaulting a city? It's an interesting way to present the news.

That said, I did watch this several times now, and do feel much more informed on Scottish & British news. So, thank you for this! :D

. . .Although I still don't think I. . .understand why there's a futuristic spacecraft in this. I didn't realize I was going to have to be on acid to understand UK news..

If you happen to watch The Daily Show, they commissioned this same "news company" to provide coverage of the Royal Wedding since "comedy programs were not allowed to show the footage". It resulted in the wedding being ...um, well, here (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-may-3-2011/exclusive---the-wedding-banners-uncensored). Be noted that Paddington Bear, the Queen Mum, and Hitler make appearances.

I have to admit, I found it amusing that they wish to hold the referendum "on the 700th anniversary of Mel Gibson's death". But why does that Scottish guy (alongside the redshirt) look like a Lego figurine?
