Learning to draw - moon colony

davidnDrawing has always been a talent I really admire in other people - it's one of the things that I've tried to learn a few times and just never got anywhere with. But feeling like I'm missing out on a large part of the communities I'm in, and having promised a few drawing friends that I would make an effort, I'm going to set out again to learn to draw.
I'm starting with You Can Draw in 30 Days by Mark Kistler, a highly-recommended book for complete beginners. Already it’s been reassuring that drawing is something teachable and not something that you’re born with or not - and to encourage myself to keep going, I've started a Tumblr to post my progress.
This is the first thing that you might call a full picture from the book, where shading on spheres and perspective are combined to get you to build a little alien rock colony. I was inspired to colour it last night - and simple though it is, I really can't believe that I was the one that drew this.
