The meeting with the wardens was slightly strange. It was intimidating, in fact, to be facing Sam, Kenneth, and the Residence Manager herself, though the meeting was nicely friendly. In fact I feel like Winston Smith out of "1984" - I feel happier about things after emerging from the meeting, but when I think about it I feel that not really a lot has changed. But still, here are some results:

1. The locking of the rooms for a day has certainly helped. It's been effective in stopping people from using the study rooms as eating rooms, so hopefully will not happen again.

2. The driers were repaired today, after an engineer came and removed a pint and a half of water from their ventilation. If you have problems, the residence manager can give your wasted money back to you if you report it to her (although this isn't announced as people would abuse it).

3. The kitchen facilities can't be opened 24 hours because of the fire risk (genuinely, this time). If the porter could open them on request then there would be a risk of people stealing other people's food. As for the microwaves last year, they had to be removed because they were in a bad state of repair, and having them in pantries without fire doors located halfway down the corridor was a safety issue.

I can't believe I'm typing this out and thinking of it so positively. It's like I've been brainwashed. After flattering me about how I was obviously someone who could communicate well, they asked me to join the committee as well, so if anyone wants to nominate/second me, feel free.

But would you really enjoy it? Having been on a hall committee I can tell you that apart from their budget, they wield very little power - but if you want a nomination I'd be more than happy to nominate you for a position?

Have they suggested which position?

Did you ask how often the meetings would be? And did Kenneth tell you what the frequency was?

What, like people can't steal during the day? I would think the porter being right there and knowing exactly who had been in after hours would be a deterrent. But we all know that if people want to steal your beautiful food, they'll find a way.

That's why you should label everything 'tofu.' Milk? 'Liquid tofu.'

Having seen too many episodes of Star Trek, I recommend that you check inside your skull for some kind of parasitic mind control worm. It probably crawled in through your ear while they were flattering you...

If the levels of flattery were as deep as everyone is suggesting then it probably wasn't through his ear that the mind control worm crawled........

If you fancy a position, Senior Student and SRC Rep are good ones to go for- it menas you get a chance to moan at the DoR on a fortnightly basis.

On the negative side, it means that you would have to meet with the DoR on a fortnightly basis.
