As predicted when I last updated the journal, I'm now in a house on the Sarah Lawrence College campus, in New York. I'm sure you've all been dying to hear my account of the journey and all the things that keep happening to me along with it.

Things started off well, when in a surprising turn of events my plane out of Scotland wasn't delayed. There's a first time for everything. The in-flight magazine was in English rather than French as well, which was rather nice of them. In many ways I consider myself lucky that English is so widely-used to the point of being almost the standard world language. I know there are more people that speak Chinese than English, but... anyway. The weather was terrible at the airport, but soon the plane burst through the layer of clouds in to glorious sunlight, like that scene from Matrix Revolutions (except in the film the city below was in a marginally worse state than Aberdeen).

After landing at Amsterdam and rushing through the biggest building in the world, I found that the plane had landed early and that I had plenty of time to make the connection. A quick wander around revealed not a Dancing Stage machine in sight, so I went through the gate to the sparse waiting area anyway.

Things were looking good when I sat down on the plane, as there were no other passengers in the seat next to me... until a mother and her baby took the place. It wasn't quite as terrible as it sounded, though, the baby was very well behaved throughout the journey. What I found slightly unsettling, though, is the way that it stared at me astonishedly for the whole eight hours. I'm sure it didn't even blink once. I must be an interesting person.

So while the mother was feeding her on white powder (I bet she had a great time explaining that to Customs), I turned to the various forms of entertainment that I'd brought with me. My sister had lent me her Gameboy Color, which would have passed the time quite well if there had been any games for it other than Pokemon and Harvest Moon, a game about farming. Actually I got quite in to that later on, and the plane landed just as I was delivering my second crop of turnips.

So that was the journey - I might even update about what's been happening here if I find the time.

Once on a flight from Toronto to London there was a mother and toddler sitting behind me. The kid was maybe 2 years old and kicked my seat almost the entire bloody way.

I learned that there are only so many times you can turn around and smile politely at the mother before you start daydreaming about stuffing the child into an overhead compartment.

Pokemon is a very addictive game, once you get into it...

What was wrong with the old one?

It's in the North of England.
