Rename Me

Right, loyal readers (if there are any of you left. My livejournal has been the most boring thing in the universe for the last couple of months), I have an important announcement to make.

Unbelievable as it may have seemed a while ago, I've been trying to gradually get rid of the name "wongchungbang" for the last couple of years. It may have been a clever name when I discovered the Internet, but nowadays it just sounds like the noise a sack of cutlery makes when it falls down the stairs. At least, I think so - others aren't so sure, as I still keep getting IMs asking me what part of China I come from. New accounts anywhere are now normally being registered under the name "Wong" (or even plain old "DavidKN"), which does remove a bit of the Googlability of my name, but that's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make.

As I've been mooching off Livejournal's free service for the last three years now, I think it's an ideal opportunity to spend a bit of money on a Rename card, or whatever other RPG-item name it's called, therefore keeping my archive of posts and automatically refactoring all links/friends/etc. I'm proposing to change my LJ name to "davidknewton", or, at a stretch, "davidxnewton".

Any thoughts?

I like it, but if you wanna change it, don't change it to David K Newton in any form... real names are boring.

I'm looking to go the other way - I think that having a real name LJ is a bit too revealing. Even if you don't think you say anything revealing you probably put in bits and bats about yourself. It's also very accessible to any future employers.

I'd agree - it's very easy to track down a real name LJ. I get how having the one name for a while might make you want something else - I sometimes get worried that mine will be tracked down easily just because I've had it so long - but I wouldn't go in the direction of real name.

I would also like to pimp the fact that my LJ name is fantastic, and the only name that I know that is better belongs to smooth_operetta.

Also...I've never gotten an update about your stubble. It can't be that fantastic a name.

Also, I would like to vote for davidxnewton if it must be a real-name one. otherwise it just looks like your last name is knewton.

I always quite like WongChungBang, especially since it can be shortened. I agree with comments above though - don't go with real names.

Don't think I can imagine changing user names myself - been using Greebo for over 10 years now.

ah, you too, huh? been thinking about getting rid of my name as well, that character has been dead for so long. i just can't think of any i'd like that aren't already taken.
good luck with finding an appropriate one for yourself.
