davidn: (good)
You might have guessed it - I think this song's great.

As if it was possible, my connection has deteriorated even further. Just now, the cable connecting the modem to the wall socket has broken free of its plastic shackles on the stairs and is now running haphazardly across the hall to the room opposite, and it's being held in the socket on my computer with blu-tack.

I've been plagued by weird dreams recently - I seem to be having at least one every night - but I think last night's one is worthy of special mention. I was back at Donington, which had to close down early because Less Than Jake had gone around tearing all the pubs to pieces (not that there were any within miles in reality). I had to round up Paul and Ailsa and get back to our tent to pack it up within twenty minutes. Even stranger than that, in the dream I was Agent Smith, and had a shotgun with me which I could reload one-handed, Terminator 2 style. Unfortunately I had bought it from Strachan's, a newsagent here in Inverurie, so it wasn't the most reliable of weapons. I remember it being a "replica" rather than the real article, so I could get past the police who were milling about unquestioned. I don't think my mind likes me very much.

Back in the real world, life's been much less exciting, which is the way I like it to be honest. However, I now have all my exam results - for Organic Chemistry I got a 9, which isn't too good but I'm happy to just pass, and for Life, the Universe and Everything (or to give it its real title, Origins of Life) I got an immensely surprising 15, considering that I understood roughly 0% of the course, which if I remember my Maths right is pretty much none of it. As for Internet Programming, that was an 18, which I'm proud of at least.

The PS2 16MB memory card, which is pretty much the machine's equivalent of a hard drive, has well and truly packed in. Third-party peripherals are never reliable as the genuine article - although it lasted nearly two years without fault, now it's covered in blue cubes of undeletable "corrupted data". I'm sure that Sony designed the PS2 browser specifically to be weird, it looks like what Windows would be if it somehow died and became a ghost, or something like that. Still, I got a new Sony one from the local Blockbuster, along with a birthday present for my youngest brother.

Last night Justus and I were at a piano recital at Cowdray Hall as part of the music festival in Aberdeen. I remember making my first solo public appearance there, playing "Hills and Dales" on the violin at the age of about eight. Last night's performance wasn't very well attended to be honest, I think we might have been the only two there that weren't related to the performers in some way. I got to talk to Alexandra again, which was nice as I hadn't seen her since I left school last year. She was one of the few performers that actually turned up as well - many of them just didn't turn up, foreshortening the event by about 45 minutes. I was rather disappointed that competitor 4, Anthony Hopkins, didn't turn up. He must have been otherwise engaged, having an old friend for dinner.

Anyway, as I write this Justus is demolishing Inverurie Academy with a piano. Today, the two of us had to return to the place, my old school, to get use of the music room - I lasted one day short of a year without setting foot in the place. I think the last time I was there was Thursday 13th June - I only remember the date because the Prom was on the 14th. It was really strange sitting in the foyer, all my old teachers recognising me as they passed by. Mrs Khalil, who runs the school in reality despite the rector thinking he has control, eventually turned up and let us in. It's changed quite a lot since I was last there - the Barra social area has become more cafe-like, the rusting coathooks have gone. It looks a lot nicer - but then, anything looks nicer if you're not actually being taught there. Apparently the new S6 have painted _our_ common room pink, the carpet-baggers.
From what I heard before I left, he's pretty amazing on the piano, especially since he's only been learning for seven years. I only took lessons for about five years, and still had difficulty with it, though I could blame that on the state of our home piano.

I still have to do that AMH article. This could turn to another CH1006 essay, so I'll get round to it soon.
