Nothing much happened to me at all today. Well, I got another inkling of a song idea which actually seems to be working, which hasn't happened in about a month or two, so that's good... and I also listened to both albums I bought.

My brother has now had his Leavers' Ceremony, which means that there's no more of Inverurie Academy for him ever. And his year's yearbook is out as well, which looks very inspired by my own year's one (but unlike mine, they don't have quotes at the bottom of the pages thanks to the lack of a dedicated quote-taker in their year).

My brother and I are collective geniuses. The Internet finally works in my room, through a dodgy set of extension cables that reach to the phone line on the other side of the house.

Getting Freeserve to run was rather a problem, though. I spent ages searching through the bookcase in the study for the installer - it doesn't help that my dad likes to store blank, featureless CDs in unlabelled CD cases along with other more useful ones. But he's the professor of Information Management, so what do I know? I did not in fact find the CD, but did discover Civilization 2, Vib Ribbon and a CD with about two thousand SNES and Genesis roms on it.

After getting it installed (which rather worried me as it messed around with the System32 directory without asking), I double clicked the icon to be told that the connection ThingummyJig could not be found in table WhateverYouCallIt. I went to uninstall it, but unfortunately it proved rather difficult to get rid of, not even letting me delete its shortcut from the desktop to sweep it under the carpet and pretend that it wasn't there. Eventually I did find a way to remove it, with the digital equivalent of a pair of very fine tweezers, and decided to enter everything manually in to the connection wizard, with my brother running up and down the stairs to get the details from the study computer.

After clicking Connect, I watched the little men in the MSN window revolve round in their waltz of the damned as I waited for a response. But eventually, as you can see that worked perfectly - hooray for Windows XP. I now have the Sinner chatroom, MSN Messenger and all the forums I could ever hope for at my fingertips. Oh, and a New Updates window that just popped up. That's something about the Internet I'd already forgotten.
