Part Something - Back in Blighty
Jul. 19th, 2004 07:48 pmWell, here I am back in Scotland, feeling slightly odd because of the time difference and spending a whole night up that was really half of an afternoon, or something. It's not as cold as I thought it would be, but it's just as rainy and grey. On the positive side, though, people drive on the side of the road that I'm used to, and there aren't any gigantic quasi-military vehicles to worry about.
The journey was far less eventful than the outward one. The best part of it was that there was only one other passenger in the row of three seats (who looked surprisingly like Rene from Allo Allo), so we both had one and a half seats each. It made getting comfortable far easier, and the flight didn't seem as long at all.
After the cleanness and space of San Francisco Airport, which could feasibly be used as storage space for a small moon, the smoke-filled decaying mess of Charles De Gaulle Airport came as a bit of a shock. I had to spend three hours there, while I had a chocolate muffin and the worst mineral water I've ever tasted. It was like what I call "church orange juice", the kind that's watered down to within an inch of its life.
By the time that was over I was in a complete daze and found myself saying hello to passing clouds on the flight to Aberdeen. After briefly wondering if I should declare my cheese sandwich or not, I was picked up by my parents, driven home and dumped in to bed.
Unfortunately, the sun doesn't rise at a sensible time here, so I awoke at 3 am after having a dream that somehow involved a lot of rotating cylinders.
To aid communication, I've tried installing AIM, but Whitney doesn't seem to be online... maybe later on. I have quite a few photos of the trip, and the less embarrassing of them will be put up on my webspace as soon as I feel like waiting for them to upload.
