Dec. 12th, 2008 01:10 pmIt is evident from the hesitant strains of Frère Jacques that have been drifting through the ceiling for about half an hour that the people in the flat upstairs have bought a piano. This might be a very bad thing for sanity's sake indeed, but I can always be thankful that it isn't French rap.
I have to admire their persistence if nothing else - they've been playing the same eight bars constantly, with both left and right hand parts, though they don't seem to be getting any faster or smoother. My piano practice used to just consist of playing everything I'd been set once, craftily always ending with the slowest song in the current repertoire which I would make a special effort to play as smoothly as I could so that it caused my mum to fall asleep, thus allowing me to sneak out without doing any scales.
If this does escalate into a neighbourly music war, though, I think the side with the tube amplifier's going to win.

Date: 2008-12-12 08:11 pm (UTC)I hope it's just going to be in the middle of the day, though - at least the piano isn't really an instrument favoured by more wild people who are likely to practice at 2am.

Date: 2008-12-13 02:55 pm (UTC)It's for this reason that I'm loathe to play on real pianos for 95% of my practice - a decent piano-style keyboard and earphones is best for me, thank you very much, the only thing the rest of the world is getting to hear is the rhythm of the sustain pedal.
