An ongoing issue of our era was once again brought to my attention at the supermarket - the ludicrous rate of inflation of Creme Eggs. I'd just remembered about their existence the other day, and suddenly they're back available again for the year. This time, these shells of chocolate filled with... that stuff that nobody knows what it is have reached $1 each and are naturally slightly more diminutive than the last time they were seen.

I used to get these for 30p from the school canteen ten years ago and they were positively fist-sized compared to the microscopic ovoid sitting in front of me just now. Cadbury's's own site used to go with the widely-spread claim that the eggs only seemed smaller to you because your own radius has slightly increased as a result of stuffing yourself with them last Easter, but after somebody or other appeared on a late night chat show with two different-sized eggs as proof, they quickly amended this to say that the American eggs had changed size after all and therefore the previous claim had been a bit of a lie.

I don't know what this world's coming to.

Disgusting.

However, since I'm now pushing 7 feet tall, I just thought that it was me.

I lost respect for Cadbury's a long time ago, even before Kraft got at them. Not a whole lot different to other companies, really - but it never used to be like that.

I think you can get Creme Eggs for about 40p now (on special offer, natch), and smaller than they used to be, and probably not as tasty... bleargh.

I can get 2 for a Euro in Ireland. I think that is Novak from the office, Can't think of his first name at the moment.

I got 3 for a pound recently - I only ate one, two were given away, for the sake of my diet! - but you can get 12 for £2.79 (or something like that) in Tesco at the moment. That's pretty good value. And I don't think ours are getting smaller either. Silly America.

Cadbury tries to pull stuff like that here, too. It was noted on some television program that their chocolate bars were getting smaller but rising in price, and more recently they changed the taste of the chocolate and everyone hated it so they had to backpedal and change it back.
You may be speaking sarcastically about it being a serious social issue, but one way or another the former is pretty appalling behaviour and the latter is pretty stupid behaviour. Big companies are getting more and more brazen in both ways, and us consumers are left with the distinct impression that while our money matters to them, they clearly doesn't think it should matter to us.

(Sorry, I edited this one too. Just a stupid word error.)

I remember in high school, we would watch the cans from the vending machine decrease slightly in size every couple of months, while maintaining the same price. I understand that inflation means these sorts of things must happen, but it's like the companies don't think we'll notice that we're getting less for our money; we're not stupid.
