Dinosaur metal
Apr. 8th, 2010 01:08 pmI actually have a few music posts of roughly increasing insanity lined up - this one was already covered this week by both
kjorteo and
ravenworks, but I'd feel left out if I didn't pass it on as well.
There's a children's heavy metal band in Finland (the only country in the world where the concept of a children's heavy metal band can possibly exist), made up of people in spiky-clothed dinosaur costumes set to music written by members of Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica (among others) - a bit like Lordi but down a separate evolutionary path. It's called Hevisaurus.
Their entry on Encyclopaedia Metallum documents that their debut release was in 2009 with the title "Jurahevin kuninkaat" (which might possibly translate to "Jurassic Kings", though this is only a semi-educated guess) complete with one of the most remarkable album covers ever. This is what the Finns grow up on - I don't remember anything like this when I was that age.
Still, they don't have Bagpuss, though.

Date: 2010-04-08 09:11 pm (UTC)The best part is how perfectly the illustration fits if you just substitute the text for whatever way-too-over-the-top metal act you feel like making fun of today. Try to imagine that exact album cover, only instead of "HEVISAURUS - JURAHEVIN KUNINKAAT" at the bottom, it says "LOST HORIZON - A FLAME TO THE GROUND BENEATH" or something.
Also, I'm already having enough problems trying to fight against developing some sort of furry crush on their drummer (thank you official website for helping me tell which one is which.) Had I actually grown up on this, who knows how it would have turned out for me.
