Mall Monster

The game places you in the role of a young boy who has managed to get himself lost and trapped in a mall after dark. As if finding your way out wasn't enough, there is also a fearsome monster lurking through the stores and waiting to strike. You must work your way through the winding aisles and hallways as stealthily as possible to avoid being seen or heard. In addition to the aid of your carefully planned movements, you will encounter many items that can be used to your advantage.

If your strategies fail to keep the monster at a safe distance, fear will begin to take over your actions. Curling up into a ball and closing your eyes to calm yourself down is always an option, but you'll no longer be able to make quick reactions to probable threats. This may seem to place you in a large disadvantage, but becoming too afraid can lead to a worse fate. Once you faint due to fear, the monster will definitely hear you thud to the ground, and you can only hope that he doesn't reach you before you wake.

Right. Not playing that, then.

I'm serious, I haven't played it - just reading that description is going to stop me from sleeping. It sounds like a game version of one of those nightmares where you know something's after you but you can't run, or alternatively a game based entirely around the end of 7 Days a Skeptic with weights tied to your feet.

I bet I cave and download it within the week.

While we're on the subject of indie horror games, Eversion's gone commercial. Seems a bit more up-front about what sort of game it is, which is something of a pity - half the fun of it was introducing other people to it as a harmless little platformer. :P

This sounds like a movie concept like Chopping Mall (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090837/), made into a horror-genre game.

I think I'll give it a shot, and play it around my girlfriend. Did I mention that she got freaked out by Judith (http://davidn.livejournal.com/397287.html) and had a flashback the following day that creeped her right-out? ^^

Actually, C just basically told me that everything after the incidents in the Forest Room pretty much freaked her out. She's not much for these kinda games so the entire concept (and the finale) probably stuck with her. ^^

So, I've given it a shot - it's a hard game to play with the keyboard, I wonder if a controller would be better suited for this.

However, I couldn't get anywhere. Every time the kid faints, he wakes back up still scared and faints within a few seconds again. It's a very tricky game... I think it needs some tweaking.
