We're here... We're here and we're all right, the flight took six hours but we're in San Jose because we didn't have enough fuel to land in San Francisco and we have to stay on the ground here while they give us more and then we're going to bounce over to the right airport and this will be over and oh god oh god please no more planes ever

Good God, how is it that you're encountering so much incompetence? I'm not sure about the other times, but it certainly sounds like it in this case.
At least the flight itself went well.
Well, as you said, it'll be over when you get there, and then you can relax.

Well, it's not as if the pilot had gone "Just give us five pounds' worth, we'll make it" on the ground when we started. Rather, we were flying above San Francisco and he came on to say that there had been strong headwinds that had cut into his fuel supply, that the airport wanted to put him in a holding pattern and that he was going to San Jose (about fifteen miles away) because he wasn't confident that he had enough left to keep circling. He was very competent and very reassuring, and came through while we were refuelling to say "Well, if you thought that was stressful, you should have seen the fuel gauge" and nn nnn nnnnnnn nn nnnnnnn nnn nnnn n

I take back what I said, in that case. I was trying to work out exactly how that sort of thing could happen (with my frankly miniscule knowledge of aeroplanes), but it's somewhat unfair to immediately put it down to idiocy, especially when they have to be very careful. I suppose I'm just used to seeing and hearing about incompetence in the simplest to the most technical of jobs, so it's an easy assumption to make.

And it seems you've encountered more than your share of misfortune with air travel lately! Still, you flew successfully, even though it was stressful.

I know somebody who believes "Never put down anything down to incompetence when malice can explain it" or words to that effect.

Meanwhile, every flight I have ever been on has gone perfectly smoothly. With every flight leaving on time, and arriving on time or even early, without any problems along the way. Hardly even any minor turbulence. And the flight staff are always offering me a selection of juices.

Try to share a flight with me next time, and it will either go much better for you, or else I'll get a much more interesting experience out of it.
