Calming down

We spent a couple of days in New Hampshire in the end, with some miniature golf, lobster rolls and a hot tub - when we arrived we found that they had wasted absolutely no time at all, as the tourist shops were already selling commemorative T-shirts. But now I think things are beginning to return to what passes for normal in my life. The news about the events of last week will go on for some time - the MBTA buses all have "BOSTON STRONG" scrolling on their signs now, which is sort of unfortunate as those things are made of wet cardboard and bits from under the sink and regularly break down if a passenger sneezes too hard.

It gives me a chance to share this poetically incomprehensible supermarket receipt, though. They're like a DOS directory listing at the best of times (I have no idea what among the things we bought today might be identified as a LN C 3CH STF RIG), but this takes it to a whole new level of gibberish. If you stare at them long enough, they do eventually form words, sort of like a written Magic Eye.

Apparently I do, though I can't remember ever actually taking advantage of it, or knowing how.

I think the inconsistency nags at me most of all - those five bottles are all different flavours of the same range, and absolutely none of them are identified with the same prefix! (Like PHP.)

My favourite abbreviation ever came on my ex-bf's pay packet. He was doing a PhD and would often go in and help the honours students with their practical classes for a bit of extra money: a student demonstrator. On the pay packet it was noted down as STUD DEMON.

In OpenGL 15.3, it's GLint glCfRtWtrOrNgMAN(float complex n, GLint x, GLint y): compute the complex single-precision color roots of n in the current space. Overwrite pixels beginning at (x, y) of the framebuffer object currently bound to GL_DRAW_FRAMEBUFFER with any results that have a higher luminance (are whiter) than the current pixels. If the results cannot be computed, instead overwrite the pixels with the current value of the color parameter GL_MAN_NO_GOOD. This function is part of the Math/Analytics extension.

It could also be from GLib 9.2: gchar *g_lc_fr_twtr_o_rng_m_an(gchar *name, gchar const *m_an_file_name): return the correctly localized version of name for Twitter, forcing the target mutation and anchoring file to be parsed using the old RELAX NG schema. Return NULL if the mutation and anchoring file is invalid or if localizing the name would be blasphemous. The new string is allocated as though with g_malloc and must be freed by the caller.
