Stumbling through Spelunky again!
Apr. 15th, 2014 08:47 pmIt's a Stumbling Through sequel! This time, to show how much better I've got at the game (ahem) since the first attempt, I set myself the challenge of getting all the way through the mines and jungle into the game's third stratum. And... well, I made it. Eventually.

Date: 2014-04-16 09:06 pm (UTC)Something about this remade version somehow... doesn't have the same charm as the original, to me. Maybe it's a graphical thing; as simple as the old graphics were, they felt like a NES-era platformer, or maybe something like Cave Story, whereas this feels very like a Flash game on Newgrounds, the way everything bobs and floats slightly when it moves. For something so cartoony, though, that ghost is horrifying!
Good luck on your further Spelunking!

Date: 2014-04-18 07:11 pm (UTC)I never got around to playing the original at the time and actually hadn't realized that this game was a remake at first - after that, looking at the original game was strangely like looking at a game that had been released twenty years ago and its modern update, rather than two very recently-released games, the earlier of which just chose to be low-fidelity.
Next objective will be trying to do all three of the first levels with an additional handicap set by the game, which should be a barrel of laughs.
