I've just had one of the most disturbing experiences of my life (not including Chemistry's GLC video.) It's a German work safety video about forklift trucks... it starts off very mild but it gets rather... extreme by the end of it. Now, I should warn you that the following link constitutes an extreme danger to life force - don't watch it if you happen to be me, but in that case it's already too late.

Do not click this link under any circumstances

And the worst thing is that everyone else (at least male) who watches the video will find it hilarious, and post mocking replies to this journal entry.

What can I say about why this "funny" video disturbs me so much? Some will say that it's obviously fake and not realistic at all. I don't see whether it's fake or not, though - all I see is people being shown being impaled, torn apart... in very violent and graphic ways. And it's the circumstances as well. In things like Quake 3, a good example, gore does not disturb me at all because I would never be in that situation in real life. However, things like this (and for that matter Thrill Drive 2) involve the imagery of being killed in a way that I realistically could die. Not that I ever will, of course, because my eventual fate is on the end of a tech support line. Damn.

Wow, I could of sworn that I saw this with you. I guess it must just have been Paul. I found it incredibly disturbing as well.

i don't want to mock you, but i don't get how someone can play all kinds of gory computer games, but still believe that they could realistically be killed like that? that's the whole point of safety videos, so no-one gets hurt in ways like those. plus, you'd have to work with dodgy germans called klaus in a warehouse, and i don't see that happening to you any time soon ;)

I think it's absolutely hilarious. But the chances of you being shot from 30 metres away with an impossible weapon that fires slugs of depleted uranium at infinite speed, in a place hovering in a giant box somewhere in space, with... considerably altered laws of physics, are still greater than being chased down a corridor by a chainsaw. I could be off, this calculator has been known to make mistakes.

Odd. Livejournal kept saying my password was wrong, so I idiotically tried it a few times. I updated my LJ, by the way.
