Good job to whoever put this poll up on the Heavenly website:

After getting back from my only lecture this morning (actually I was out for longer because I only realised that I didn't have an 11am Chemistry lecture today at about 10:58) I was phoned by Paul, who told me that the DDR in the Union had been set to Free Play. Naturally I went there as fast as possible - Marco turned up as well. We had quite a few games and lunch there before someone came to put the machine right. He gave us two free credits in the process, though.

I think "Captain Jack" on Difficult will be what I'll concentrate on now... the patterns are easy to do, it's just really fast. The timing also looks a little odd, but makes sense with the song playing. http://www.ddr.sh/steps/ver30/another_single/captain_print.html

For those of you who don't really care about the steps, which will be quite a few people to be honest, here's the Something Awful Guide to DDR Players. Look at the second one on the last page... I think we've found killbill.

Because of that marathon session... well, it wasn't that long in fact, it just felt like it as we were doing fast tracks all the time... I'm knackered.

Anyway, after that I went along to the introduction to "emacs" for CS2002. I left after about half an hour, having completed the "practical" for the week (it didn't have to be handed in). And from that half hour I think I can safely say that emacs is the most incredibly awkward piece of software that I have ever seen in my life. Perhaps the worst thing about it is that it doesn't use any standard key combinations at all - instead of Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste, for example, as in every other program ever written, it uses Ctrl+Y to copy and... I don't know, Windows-Q to paste or something. Or you can just use the middle mouse button. Perhaps I'm being very ignorant, but I can't see any reason for doing this apart from to be awkward. Oh, and guess how to open a new panel? It isn't Ctrl-N for 'new', Ctrl-S for 'split' or anything... In fact it is, believe it or not... Ctrl-X followed by pressing "2".

What adds to this is the sheer amount of junk in the program. There's a set of 10 little text games, a "psychiatrist" (one of those things like Eliza that allows the computer to answer back to you) and a "Zone Out" function which scrambles the text on the screen. Now, I don't mind that, but it seems like GNU ignored basic functionality in place of just cramming as much as possible in to the program.

Aaaaaaaaaaargh! Oh, tea time.
