Oh, that's right - I was in California for the last six weeks. The way that I haven't mentioned this is sort of worrying to me - I've feared the use of Livejournal dropping off for a while because it's where the interesting posts go, and I've been neglecting it in favour of Tumblr, which is great for quick thoughts and pictures but is consequently full of a lot of garbage. Here, personal projects still get posted (mostly videos about talking pigeons) but as a record of what I'm doing with my life and an aid to my own memory of it, it's been getting much more sparse.

Therefore - we went to stay with Whitney's parents for six weeks because one of the advantages of where I work is being able to say that I would be working from the office in San Francisco for a while. I was in the city occasionally but most of the time it didn't really seem worth it when I had a nice office to work in at the top of the house anyway. We spent Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Year there, as well as performing the astonishing feat of planning a surprise party for my father-in-law's 60th birthday that he hadn't suspected at all over the last few months. With secret plans of my own also coming to a head, it was wonderful to get news of kjorteo opening his Christmas gifts as well!

Now we've come back from chilly 65-degree California winter weather (people were wearing scarves) to barely registering on the Kelvin scale in Boston - when we got back we found the thermostat had run out of batteries so we had to warm the house up from just below freezing. Miraculously, though, everything was all right, no pipes had burst - and the adverse conditions must have discouraged the occasional mice we get from taking over and holding a mouse party in our absence.

For the New Year, I'm going to try to start writing actual interesting things again. Whether I'll succeed is another matter.
