Happy Feet is the most disturbing film that I've ever seen. When Whitney and I put it in the DVD player this evening we were expecting a family film about tap-dancing penguins. Instead, we were treated to an uncomfortably sexual musical with overtones of religious persecution, narrated by Robin Williams doing an impression of Barry White. Featuring tap-dancing Hispanic penguins. And it was written by someone called George Killer! That tells you all you need to know.

And no matter how emotive an episode of Doctor Who may try to be, I just can't take anything seriously when it has Dougal Maguire as an anthropomorphic cat.

Yes - although I'd say that I tend to have that problem with most episodes written by Russel T Davies. Still, at least it didn't have a medical student managing to cure the doctor having his blood sucked out by applying CPR, although it bothered me way too much that the offspring of a humanoid Irish cat and a human seemed to be entirely feline, with no human characteristics. Watching it with Lyndon, who's not seen any of the new Doctor Who before was interesting - he seemed to have some problem with the concept of the Face of Bo.
"Why was there a big face?"
"It's been around for billions of years, and is the last of its kind, weren't you paying attention?"
"Yes, but why is there a giant face?"
"You know, that's never been fully explained."

Did you watch the next episode trailer?

Mmm. Other concepts to grasp "not overusing villains", "making the audience believe that the enemies can be wiped out".

I was gutted to hear that Stephen Fry's had to drop out of writing an episode due to scheduling.

I hadn't heard that, but now I'm a bit gutted too. Maybe next series.

Ah, but that's part of the great joy of Dr. Who - it isn't supposed to be entirely serious, it has that whole tongue-in-cheek element to it. But it is often a love it or hate it thing.
