Stumbling through Spelunky

Here’s a video for today! As usual, I’m playing a game far too late - here is my very first exploration through old-style exploration platformer Spelunky. In fact, I came to this so late that there was already a remake out by the time I got there.

Playing this game involves the precise use of bombs, and the video goes about as well as you could expect given that piece of information.

Powered by kisses :D That's downright cute when you put it like that...
I generally hate the remake's soundtrack, but that one song you commented on is pretty excellent :) I still prefer some of the songs in the original, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncP4FDLyKaY
"You've got more arms on your belt in case you need any spare arms" XD;;;; Daviiiid XD;;
Hahah, bump the idol, then you're trying to put it back rather than run, like "IT'S FINE! NOTHING HAPPENED!"
Bernard the damsel :D
"Actually you're not saved, you're just slightly deeper into the mines" — that always drove me crazy!
Shoot—you have actually learned how to DODGE those arrows instead of just triggering them remotely...! I didn't even know that was doable :)

Date: 2014-04-12 09:22 pm (UTC)I thought that a lot of very old arcade-style games I used to play were composed of randomly generated levels, but far less sophisticated than this - Spongs (Pengo) is the only one that I can actually name offhand at the moment.
It was only after finishing the video that I realized I should learn how to trigger the darts instead of rely on being able to dodge them, by throwing through a stone or a skull or a spare damsel...
And I thought I'd got the name "Farthington-Carstairs" from something, but there don't seem to be any Google results for it other than me and I can't believe that there would be no trace of the source online!
